Sophia Darby's Strip Pattern

Kaitie M: Strip patterns have indefinitely many repetitions in exactly one direction. This is a strip pattern because the zig zags repeat indefinitely both right and left.

It is important to not that this pattern is made up by stacking indefinitely as well, the crystallographic notation of this pattern is pm11.

Ava's strip pattern


Considering one vertical column of swirls to be the strip pattern it would seem that the motif is the combination of two swirls where one swirl is the vertical reflection of the other. Since there is not vertical reflection symmetry, but there is glide reflection symmetry and no horizontal reflection lines, the crystallographic characterization of this object is p1a1. -Ryan F.
